This year, two films from Central Asia have been included in the competition: the Kazakh film "Winners Are Seen at the Start," directed by Zhannat Alshanova, and the Kyrgyz film "Only the Heavens Know," directed by Nurjamal Karamoldoeva.
The festival will take place from April 21 to 30 in Medellín, Colombia. The head of the jury in the feature film category will be the renowned Colombian actress, producer, and activist Natalia Reyes. The Alternativa Film Festival focuses on socially significant cinema from Global South countries, and each time the event is held in a new region. In 2026, the program will feature films from Latin America and Asia, both in the competition and in the new non-competitive section Impact Hits, which will debut this year.
