The AFC has confirmed its plans to create a Nations League for Asian teams, which will be a significant step in organizing the international football calendar and increasing the attractiveness of matches.
According to information from the AFC, organizing friendly matches during FIFA windows has become difficult due to a lack of opponents, high costs, and logistical issues. The Nations League will provide an opportunity for teams of the same level to meet more frequently, as well as help reduce costs through a centralized approach to match organization.
Datuk Seri Windsor John, the AFC Secretary General, noted that the new tournament will contribute to the growth of all 47 national associations in Asia and make international matches more interesting for both spectators and broadcasters.
The format, start dates, and rules for the Nations League will be announced later, after discussions with national federations. Among the participants in the tournament will be the national teams of countries neighboring Kazakhstan, including Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, and China.
