The recent match between Valentina Shevchenko and Weili Zhang was a real shock for the Chinese athlete's team. Coach Wood, who leads Zhang's training process, admitted that he did not expect such a defeat. This was reported by the portal allboxing.ru.

The fight, which took place in November 2025, ended with the absolute dominance of the Kyrgyzstani fighter: not a single judge awarded Zhang a round, and the final score was 50-45 in favor of Shevchenko across all judges' scorecards.

"That night, Valentina confirmed her status. She is undoubtedly the best female fighter in the world," Wood noted in an interview with MMA Fighting. "Her grappling skills, patience, and timing make her unbeatable. She excellently controls the fight and accumulates points, which allowed her to secure the victory."

Additionally, Wood mentioned that Weili Zhang plans to return to the minimum weight class to attempt to win the title from Mackenzie Dern, who became champion during her absence.
