Paintings by Sabyrbek Akylbekov
In the paintings of Sabyrbek Akylbekov, the color palette is restrained but built on complex subtle shades. The landscapes are soft and harmonious in color, and although the artist avoids bright colors, his painting palette is tense and accurately expresses the majestic, strict hues of the native nature. The canvas "In the Fields of Kyrgyzstan" (1953) is the pinnacle of his creativity during this period. In this work, the features of the new life of Soviet Kyrgyz peasantry are conveyed with keen observation, and the dynamics of the collective farmers' work in the field can be felt. The early morning is depicted in tender blue tones that dominate the painting. The combination of the yellow color of ripe wheat, the tender blue sky, and the bright red spots of the farmers' clothing creates a joyful harmony of colors.
Works such as "In the Evening at the Herd" (1952) and "On the Highway" (1957), "On the Pasture" (1958) already go beyond the boundaries of landscape painting. These are genre paintings with an elaborate narrative about human activity.
At the creative conference of artists from Kyrgyzstan in Moscow in 1946, S. A. Chuykov spoke about Akylbekov: "He has a sense of color... When composing things, he feels the proportionality of spots... He is a growing artist, and the attention we give him is well-deserved."
