The place of the print (mainly linocut) occupies a significant role in the work of the multifaceted artist Theodor Theodorovich Herzen— a master of monumental painting, draftsman, and book illustrator. In engraving, as in other areas of Herzen's creativity, there lies a fundamental realistic foundation. He is an artist with solid professional training, clear artistic thinking, and a commitment to working from nature. Typically, his easel graphic compositions are expansive narrative stories that depict the history and contemporary life of the republic, its people, and nature. He particularly loves rural themes. Growing up among mountainous nature, with people close to the land, simple rural workers, he draws inspiration from the simplest yet infinitely dear motifs of Kyrgyz nature. The artist often translates natural images into graphic material (linocuts "Cool Stream," 1966; "Autumn in Kichi-Kemine," 1967; "Poplars," 1967; "Warm Rain," 1968; "Silence," 1969; "Mountain Stream," 1976).
