Therapeutic Resources of Kyrgyzstan

Currently, more than 120 natural mineral water springs have been discovered in the territory of the republic.

Among them, mineral waters of almost all known types are noted.

Kyrgyzstan has several hot springs that can only be accessed on foot or via difficult roads. These springs are purely natural and should be carefully protected as an important social and tourist resource for adventure tourism.

Carbonated waters. There are more than 25 sites of carbonated water manifestations known in the republic, mainly in the Fergana Range. In total, these sources can yield about 100 liters per second. Among the local waters, there are analogues of Arzni, Borjomi, Darasun, and Essentuki. The most famous mineral water deposits in Kyrgyzstan are Chatyr-Kel and Kara-Shoro.

Thermal waters. More than 50 manifestations of thermal and subthermal waters have been noted. Among them are iodide-bromine (Izbasken, Kochkor-Ata), radon (Jety-Oguz, Kerege-Tash), low-mineralized siliceous (Issyk-Ata, Ak-Suu), and brines without specific components (Segettyu). The natural resources of thermal waters in the republic amount to 200 liters per second. Resorts and sanatoriums operate based on 10 deposits.

Sulfide waters are found in the southern part of the republic, mainly near oil and gas deposits. More than 10 manifestations have been discovered. The most well-known are Kara-Tyube and Kyzyl-Djar.

Therapeutic muds (mud and mud-peat). They have been found in quantities of practical interest near Jalal-Abad, in the Chui Valley, along the shores of Lake Issyk-Kul, and in other locations.

The number of sites is estimated in the hundreds, with reserves in the tens of millions of cubic meters. Therapeutic muds are currently underutilized but are expected to find widespread and justified application in the future.
