Waterfalls of the Issyk-Ata Gorge

Issyk-Ata — a gorge located 77 km from Bishkek.

It is here that the famous Issyk-Ata hot hydrogen sulfide springs, an ancient depiction of Buddha, and a multitude of other attractions can be found. In the 12th-14th centuries, the gorge was the cradle of Buddhism in the region, which is why Issyk-Ata is not just a unique natural monument, but also a place with its own amazing history. The mountain river Issyk-Ata also attracts fishermen from all over Kyrgyzstan, primarily because there is plenty of trout here. The place is surrounded by various legends, including one about a girl who bathed in the river and retained her youth, and another about a large stone with an image of Buddha. This place has attracted people for a long time. Today, it is a popular destination for family recreation.

Just 1.5 kilometers from the resort lies the first ten-meter Marble Waterfall, one of the most visited spots in Issyk-Ata. The waterfall is located above the resort on the left bank, in the direction of travel, at an altitude of 2100 m. Its height is 8 m. The waterfall consists of several cascades. Only the lower one is accessible.

Opposite the first waterfall on the right side of the gorge are the cascades of waterfalls. The lower cascade reaches a height of 15-20 m in three steps. Above it are two more small cascades.

The gorge also features the Bala-Partak and Jary-Tash waterfalls. They are located above the first waterfall, with heights ranging from 3 to 40 m.

The first waterfall is a half-hour walk away in a side tributary deep within. Access to it is difficult or unavailable.

The second waterfall is 1.5-2 hours of walking away, also in a side branch. The height of the waterfall in cascades is about 30 m, with a basin in the middle section. The water flow is weak and often dries up.

Notable is the inaccessible Botvey (Byty) Mountain, at the foot of which the gorge splits into two parts — Byty and Ayak-Kel.
