The "French Alliance" in Bishkek, together with the embassies of Switzerland and France in the Kyrgyz Republic and the "Club France," is honored to present Francophonie Week in Bishkek from March 16 to 21, 2015.
Francophonie is a festival of the French language and cultures of French-speaking countries, celebrated annually in mid-March around the world. The festival organizers have prepared a program for the general public that will allow them to appreciate the linguistic and cultural diversity of the French language in music, cinema, and theater.
The opening of Francophonie Week on March 16 will feature the French film "Crazy Wedding" at 5:00 PM at the "Oktyabr" cinema. This French comedy is about conservative parents whose daughter marries a Jew, an Arab, a Chinese man, and an African, and the limits of their patience.
This year, Francophonie Week will offer various events, such as a French song contest, quizzes about France, an international spelling bee, and a French gala dinner.
Three important events of the week:
• Swiss and French films will be screened at the "Oktyabr" cinema: a French comedy on March 16 at 5:00 PM and a Swiss documentary film on March 18 at 5:00 PM. Both films will be shown in French with Russian subtitles.
• The pantomime performance "With a Sewn Mouth" featuring professional French artist Laurent Decol, who presents his program worldwide and will perform in Bishkek for the first time. The performance will take place in the assembly hall of the Kyrgyz Drama Theater on March 20 at 6:00 PM.
• An exclusive concert by the Swiss band "Joe Metro," which will take place on March 21 at 9:00 PM at the "Promzona" nightclub. The band is invited from Switzerland and will perform in Bishkek for the first time. Joe Metro offers their audience notes of light rock/pop/folk music and performs their songs with expressive energy.
