Bishkek Hosts Open-Air Movie Screenings

Another entertainment has appeared in Kyrgyz Bishkek. Until the end of September, residents and guests of the capital will be able to watch films of domestic and foreign production on the big screen absolutely free of charge.

The cinemas will be the parks and squares of Bishkek. This is how the organizers attract the attention of residents to unconventional evening leisure spots. The first three screenings took place in the park of the "Asanbay" microdistrict. The project was opened with a classic of Kyrgyz cinema – "The Sky of Our Childhood" by the outstanding Kyrgyz filmmaker Tolomush Okeeva. Next, for the youngest viewers, the work of Japanese animation master Hayao Miyazaki "Spirited Away" was presented on the big screen. And for older film enthusiasts – the tragicomedy "Life is Beautiful" by Italian director Roberto Benigni.

- A series of screenings has already taken place at the Southern Gates. On Tuesday, August 18, we showed the film "The Intouchables" by French directors Olivier Nakache and Éric Toledano, and on Wednesday – "The Glasses" by Algimantas Vidugiris, - said News-Asia Altynai Koichumanova, director of the Public Foundation "Film Development Fund". - We show films that are part of the world classics or simply good cinema, but not mass-market, not Hollywood blockbusters: auteur works, art-house, the golden fund of world cinema from France, Italy, Japan… In each location, we do 3 screenings: an animated film, a Kyrgyz film, and a film from world cinema. Initially, we wanted to focus solely on Kyrgyz cinema. But we are also responding to the requests of residents on-site and on social media, and decided not to create a fixed program focused only on it and scheduled by dates for all days of the project.

The next screening location – on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday will be the upper Botanical Garden on Akhunbaeva Street. It is worth noting that admission to the screenings is free. The start time is at 20:30.
