You can translate signs into the state language for free. But businessmen do not know about it
“Entrepreneurs have the opportunity to correctly translate advertisements or signs into the state language for free. But businesses do not know about this and pay fines,” said Elvira Surabaldiyeva, a member of the parliamentary committee on economic and fiscal policy, at a meeting today.
The deputies are discussing amendments to the advertising law. Last week, the issue was postponed due to the absence of representatives from the National Commission on the State Language. The deputies suggested that one body should be responsible for checking the correctness of the writing of names and advertisements in the state language. Today, it became clear at the meeting that the National Commission only presents facts of violations, while the decision on fines for incorrect inscriptions is made by the State Agency for Antimonopoly Regulation.
If an entrepreneur makes a mistake in writing an advertisement or sign in the state language, they should be issued a directive to rectify the violation. Within a month, the National Commission on the State Language will provide a correct translation for free.
“But entrepreneurs do not know about this. The antimonopoly service does not work in the interests of the taxpayers on whose account it exists. What you say into the microphone does not actually align with what is happening in reality. The Commission says it can translate for free, help a person avoid punishment. In a year, there have only been 50 translations, and that’s because the antimonopoly body fines them. You cannot treat business like a cash cow for all 26 years,” Elvira Surabaldiyeva expressed her outrage.
