National Geographic Traveler included Kyrgyzstan in the top twenty travel destinations of 2016.
According to the website travel.ru, in Kyrgyzstan, home to the famous high-altitude Issyk-Kul Lake, the editors of National Geographic Traveler recommend seeing the stone sculptures of Balbals near the city of Tokmok, visiting the Osh Bazaar in Bishkek, trekking and horseback expeditions in the Tian Shan mountains, and enjoying the relict forests, radon springs, and alpine pastures. It is worth noting that the high season at Issyk-Kul lasts from mid-July to the end of August, so it is advisable to book summer vacations in advance.
The top 20 also includes four Russian tourist destinations: the island-town of Sviyazhsk in Tatarstan, Sevastopol in Crimea, the village of Teriberka on the Kola Peninsula in the Murmansk region (the location where the famous film "Leviathan" was shot), and the Barguzin Nature Reserve on Baikal.
The list of twenty places worth visiting this year also includes Tbilisi (Georgia), Budapest (Hungary), Glasgow (Scotland), New York (USA), Serbia, Burgundy (France), Flanders (Belgium), Calabria (Italy), Iran, the Philippines, the Con Dao archipelago (Vietnam), Ethiopia, the Okavango Delta (Botswana), Bolivia, and Cuba.
