On April 30, the results of the fifteenth festival "Cinema for Children" in Samara (Russia) were announced, which is held annually in Kazan. The Grand Prix, the main prize of the film festival, was awarded to a film considered the first Kyrgyz musical — "Darak Yry," or in Russian translation "Song of the Tree," directed by Aibek Daiyrbekov.
The competition program featured 16 films made by directors from Russia, South Korea, Estonia, the USA, Bangladesh, Norway, Germany, Finland, and Iran.
This film marks the cinematic debut of a young director who previously only made music videos and short films. Specifically for "Darak Yry," 17 songs were written by the renowned Kyrgyz poetess Bakhtygul Choturova. The film is set in the mountains of Kyrgyz Ala-Too and tells the love story of Begimai and Esen. The story is based on real events that took place in the 18th century.
The film was made in the Kyrgyz language by the Kyrgyz company "Central Asia Film" and the Russian company Cinetrain.
