The novel "The Flood" by the people's writer of Kyrgyzstan, Sulatan Raev, was awarded the Grand Prix in the "major prose" category at the Open Eurasian Book Forum & L Festival-2017 (OEBF-2017), which is taking place this year in Sweden.
As reported by Oleg Bondarenko, editor of the website "New Literature of Kyrgyzstan," the winners' announcement ceremony took place at the Olof Palme Center in Stockholm, in the presence of renowned writers from the Nobel circle.
In addition, S. Raev was awarded the Henrik Sienkiewicz Prize, a Nobel laureate in literature, for "Best Novel."
During the award ceremony, experts shared their opinion that the novel "The Flood" is a "signal for the Nobel Prize."
The OEBF festival is held annually in different countries around the world and aims to identify potentially successful works from a commercial perspective, in line with contemporary global literary trends.
This year, the competition within the festival received 1,600 applications from writers and poets from more than 40 countries. In particular, 347 novels and novellas were registered in the "Major Prose" category.
He reminded that five authors from Kyrgyzstan made it to the shortlist of the competition in October.
O. Bondarenko noted that the novel "The Flood" will be published in Moscow by the end of this year.
