Prose Writer Oskin Danikeev


Prose writer O. Danikeev was born in the village of Chon-Jar in the Sokuluk district of the Kyrgyz SSR into a peasant family. Losing his parents at an early age, he was raised in a boarding school at Kyrgyz Secondary School No. 5 named after A. S. Pushkin in Frunze. In 1956, he graduated from the Moscow Mining Institute. From 1975 to 1977, he was a student at the Higher Party School under the Central Committee of the CPSU in Moscow.
From 1956 to 1960, he worked as an engineer at the mines of the Kyrgyz Mining and Processing Plant, and from 1960, he served as a senior engineer in the coal industry of the republic's Ministry of Coal. In 1962, he was invited to the FPI, where he conducted significant scientific and pedagogical work for 12 years.
Since 1977, he headed a department at the editorial office of the magazine "Ala-Too," served as a literary consultant in the Writers' Union of Kyrgyzstan, and from 1984, he was one of its secretaries.
O. Danikeev gained fame with his very first book—a novella titled "Kyzdyn syry" ("The Secrets of the Girl"), published in 1964. He has written novels, novellas, short stories, and dramas that have received recognition from a wide audience. He has translated several works of Russian classics, contemporary Soviet, and foreign literature into Kyrgyz. The writer's works have been published in Russian, with some appearing in brother republics and abroad.
A feature film titled "Don't Look for an Explanation" was made based on the novella "The Secrets of the Girl."
The novel "Kokey kesti" was awarded the State Prize of the Kyrgyz SSR named after Toktogul Satylganov (1986).
A member of the CPSU since 1982 and a member of the USSR Writers' Union since 1966.
He has been awarded the Order of the Badge of Honor, the medal "For Valorous Labor. In Commemoration of the 100th Anniversary of the Birth of V. I. Lenin," and Honorary Certificates from the Supreme Council of the Kyrgyz SSR.
He is an excellent worker in public education of the Kyrgyz SSR.
He is recognized for his cultural patronage over the Armed Forces of the USSR.
