PM2.5 refers to tiny particles smaller than 2.5 microns, which is 30 times smaller than the diameter of a human hair. These particles are a mixture of dust, ash, soot, as well as sulfates and nitrates that are suspended in the air. They are responsible for the deterioration of air quality typical of large cities.
According to the global air quality ranking, as of February 8, Bishkek ranks 75th (5:00 PM) among cities worldwide.
