Kyrgyzstan and India discussed expanding cooperation in energy



As part of the Bharat Electricity Summit 2026, a meeting took place between the Minister of Energy of the Kyrgyz Republic, Talaybek Ibraev, and his Indian counterpart, Manohar Lal.

According to information provided by the ministry, the parties noted the friendly nature of Kyrgyz-Indian relations at the meeting and emphasized the need to deepen cooperation in the field of energy, which is an important area of their interaction.

The ministers discussed the current state of the energy sectors of both countries and considered opportunities for expanding cooperation in areas such as renewable energy sources, hydropower, the coal industry, modernization of energy infrastructure, and training specialists. The Kyrgyz side expressed interest in studying India's experience in implementing large energy projects and introducing modern technologies.

Particular attention was paid to the CASA-1000 project, where the contribution of Indian companies and the importance of its timely completion were highlighted.

The parties also discussed the potential for cooperation with leading Indian energy companies, such as NTPC Limited and NHPC Limited, in the implementation of investment projects on the territory of Kyrgyzstan.

The meeting was held in a constructive atmosphere, confirming the mutual interest of the parties in further strengthening the partnership. The Kyrgyz side invited their Indian colleagues to participate in the meeting of the energy ministers of the member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, scheduled for June 2026 in the Kyrgyz Republic.
