On March 13, a presentation of the collective monograph "Archaeological Sites on the Kyrgyz Section of the Great Silk Road" took place in the Small Hall of the National Academy of Sciences of the Kyrgyz Republic (NAS KR). The event was attended by the president of NAS KR, academician Abdygany Erkebayev, the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Japan to the Kyrgyz Republic Takayuki Koike, representatives from the Ministry of Culture, Information and Tourism of the Kyrgyz Republic, UNESCO, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), NAS KR institutes, and universities.
This collaborative work by scholars from the Institute of History and Cultural Heritage of NAS KR, Bakyt Amanbaeva, Valery Kolchenko, and Aydai Sulaymanova, is based on a number of written sources and archaeological finds that testify to the most significant ancient and medieval monuments of history and culture along the routes of the Great Silk Road that pass through Kyrgyzstan.
The monograph primarily focuses on the monuments of the Talas Valley, southeastern and northern Fergana, Chui Valley, southwestern Issyk-Kul, and the Inner Tien Shan. The authors also introduce readers to the so-called Tentative List – a preliminary list of historical and cultural heritage sites proposed by Kyrgyzstan for inclusion in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
An appendix to the book includes a study by Bishkek numismatist Vadim Koshevar on monetary circulation in the territory of Kyrgyzstan during the functioning of the Great Silk Road.
The book was published by "Gulchinar" with a print run of 300 copies, aimed at historians, archaeologists, and a wide audience interested in the history of our country. Several copies of the publication are planned to be distributed to relevant university departments, museums, and the Central Scientific Library of NAS KR.
