In the Leilek district, a citizen was detained on suspicion of illegal possession of firearms, reports the press service of the Internal Affairs Directorate of the Batken region.

As part of the preventive operation "Arsenal," which took place from February 16 to 21, 2026, law enforcement agencies discovered a case of illegal storage of weapons. Police officers from the Katran rural department detained a 34-year-old man named A.A. on the Chat pasture, located in the village of Ozgorush.

During the detention, a single-barrel smoothbore firearm of 12-gauge was found in his possession, for which there were no necessary permits.

A criminal case has been initiated under Article 267 of the Criminal Code (Illegal circulation of weapons and ammunition). Currently, evidence collection is ongoing.

In addition, during the inspection of registered weapon owners, protocols were drawn up against two citizens under Article 133 of the Code of Offenses for failure to comply with storage regulations. They were fined.

Also, a 34-year-old resident of the village of Kara-Suu, S.K., voluntarily surrendered a double-barreled smoothbore firearm of 16-gauge, which he inherited from his grandfather, to the police as a result of explanatory work. For this voluntary surrender, the citizen was exempted from criminal liability.

The Internal Affairs Directorate of the Leilek district urges local residents to remember that during the Soviet era, shepherds and collective farm workers often received undocumented smoothbore and rifled weapons for the protection of livestock. In case of discovering firearms without permits, it is recommended to contact the Internal Affairs Directorate of the Leilek district for voluntary surrender.
