At the meeting of the committee on agrarian policy, water resources, subsoil use, ecology, and environmental protection of the Jogorku Kenesh, held on February 23, deputy Alisher Kozyuev raised the issue of the need to improve the condition of pastures.

He reminded that significant funds were allocated for the establishment of the Pasture Committee [Zhayit Committee].

“Has this committee met the expectations placed on it?” - the deputy asked.

The Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Zhanibek Kerimaliev, responded that the Pasture Committee was established in 2009 and, perhaps, it was necessary at that time, but now it is no longer needed.

According to him, most pasture committees have not been able to demonstrate their effectiveness.

“Previously, Pasture Committees were not subordinate to local authorities or the akim, as they were considered non-governmental organizations. The Accounts Chamber conducted audits of their work but had no ability to influence their actions,” he noted.

The Deputy Minister also reported that reforms are currently underway that will lead to the subordination of pasture committees to the akim.

The meeting also discussed the project “On the approval of the project Agreement for the financing of the project ‘Development of Animal Husbandry and Market-3’ between the Kyrgyz Republic and the International Fund for Agricultural Development.”
