“Foot-and-mouth disease is one of the key diseases under our control. Veterinarians are aware of seven types of it. The situation regarding types A, O, and Asia-1 in the country is stable, and I can assert this with full responsibility,” he noted.
According to Satkynov, there is traditionally a decrease in immunity among livestock in spring, which leads to ordinary oral inflammations sometimes being mistakenly taken for a serious infection.
He also emphasized that if the diagnosis is officially confirmed at the state level, the consequences could be serious.
“If foot-and-mouth disease is registered, then neighboring countries — Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Russia, and Tajikistan — will close their borders to our livestock for three years. This will affect the export of meat and dairy products, making this situation not only veterinary but also political,” he added.
Satkynov explained that foot-and-mouth disease itself does not lead to mass mortality of animals if they are not emaciated. In case of suspected illness, owners are advised to immediately contact local veterinarians.
“Foot-and-mouth disease lasts three to four days, like a regular flu. If neighbors have suspicions, do not hesitate — treat the mouths of your cows and calves with a solution of potassium permanganate or salt, as ordinary stomatitis often occurs in spring due to dry hay,” concluded Dayirkul Satkynov.
