The President of Kyrgyzstan, Sadyr Japarov, signed a law on the ratification of exchange notes between the government of the country and Japan regarding the project "Improvement of Medical Equipment in Referral Hospitals of the Southern Regions." These documents were signed on December 12, 2026, in Bishkek, as reported by the press service of the president's administration.

This law was approved by the Jogorku Kenesh on February 26, 2025. The grant agreement between the government of Japan and the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic provides an amount of up to 1,801,000,000 Japanese yen (approximately $11,321,525 or 990,043,586 soms) for the implementation of the project.

The project is aimed at enhancing the capabilities for diagnosing and treating non-communicable diseases, including cardiovascular and oncological diseases, by equipping referral hospitals in the southern regions of Kyrgyzstan with modern medical equipment. This will contribute to improving the quality of medical services and increasing the accessibility of specialized care for residents of the Osh, Jalal-Abad, and Batken regions.
