Samsung and Apple maintained leadership in smartphone shipments worldwide

According to preliminary data from the IDC Tracker report, the South Korean company Samsung and the American Apple maintained their positions as leaders in smartphone shipments in the global market last year, as reported by RIA Novosti.

Apple sold 247.8 million smartphones over the year, accounting for 19.7% of all global sales, which is an increase of 6.3% compared to the previous year. In the fourth quarter, this figure rose by 4.9% compared to the same period, reaching 81.3 million units.

According to IDC data, Samsung's smartphone shipments totaled 241.2 million units, which is 19.1% of the total global shipments, increasing by 7.9% compared to last year. In the last quarter, the figure grew by 18.3% year-on-year, reaching 61.2 million units.

“Samsung showed the most significant growth in the fourth quarter since 2013, thanks to high sales of the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and affordable models from the Galaxy A series with artificial intelligence features. Apple, in turn, achieved its best results for the fourth quarter since 2021 and recorded record quarterly revenue, indicating the success of the iPhone 17 lineup,” commented Francisco Jeronimo, Vice President of IDC for client devices.

Xiaomi ranked third with a share of 13.1% of global shipments, while Vivo occupies the fourth position with 8.2%, and Oppo rounds out the top five with 8.1%.

Overall, according to IDC, global smartphone sales increased by 1.9% year-on-year, totaling 1.26 billion units last year. In the fourth quarter, the growth was 2.3% compared to the same period, reaching 336.3 million devices.
