Unemployment Rate in Mongolia Decreased by 0.6% in the Third Quarter

According to information provided by the National Statistical Office of Mongolia on Wednesday, the unemployment rate in the country decreased by 0.6% in the third quarter of 2025 compared to the same period in 2024.

From July to September, there were 80,600 unemployed individuals recorded, more than half of whom are women. The highest unemployment rate is observed among youth aged 15 to 24 years.

As of the end of last month, the total labor force in Mongolia exceeds 1.5 million people.

Statistics show that the female population of Mongolia is 1.8 million, while the total number of residents in the country exceeds 3.5 million. Of these, 20% of women have higher education.

Analysis of the number of workers in various sectors of the economy shows that 49% of workers are employed in the service sector, while 26% are in agriculture. The remaining workers are employed in industry, construction, manufacturing, and education.

Among women, 10% of the unemployed explain their situation by pregnancy or caring for small children, 8% cite a lack of work in their specialty. Additionally, 7.4% of the population cannot find work due to a lack of profession or experience.

From 1990 to 2025, the average unemployment rate in Mongolia was 7.78%, with a historical maximum recorded in the fourth quarter of 2009 at 12.80%, and a minimum level of 3.30% in the fourth quarter of 2005.
