As of October 31, 2025, there are 37,939 foreign citizens registered in Mongolia from 132 countries, present for official or personal purposes.
The largest groups of foreign citizens consist of: 24,626 from the People's Republic of China, 2,720 from the Russian Federation, 1,594 from the Republic of Korea, and 1,004 from the USA, as well as 7,995 citizens from other countries.
According to Article 27.4 of the Law of Mongolia "On the Legal Status of Foreign Citizens," the number of foreign citizens temporarily residing in the country for personal reasons must not exceed three percent of the total population. Additionally, a limit of one percent is set for each national group. Given the current population of Mongolia, this allows for the stay of up to 106,345 foreign citizens, with no more than 35,000 from each country. Currently, the share of foreign citizens present for personal purposes is 1.05 percent of the total population.
Among all foreign residents, 537 are in Mongolia for official purposes, 21,723 are employed, 5,087 are studying, 1,769 have immigrant status, and 141 are there for religious reasons. Furthermore, 5,248 foreigners are investors, and 2,431 are there due to family circumstances.
Over the past five years, the number of foreign citizens with residence visas in Mongolia has increased by 23,000.
