The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan has informed about the reasons why citizens of the country are facing difficulties when crossing the border with Belarus through Lithuania.

According to the ministry, from October 29 to November 30, 2025, in accordance with the directive of the Lithuanian cabinet of ministers, the operation of the border checkpoints "Mėdininkai" and "Šalčininkai," located on the border with Belarus, has been temporarily suspended.

As a result, Kyrgyz citizens, like other foreigners, are forced to wait a long time for their passage. The "Mėdininkai" border checkpoint continues to accept only diplomats, those involved in the delivery of diplomatic mail, transit passengers to and from Kaliningrad, citizens of Lithuania and European Union countries, as well as foreign nationals with temporary residence permits in Lithuania and holders of humanitarian visas.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic emphasizes that the restrictions imposed by the Lithuanian authorities have led to the formation of queues among foreign citizens, including Kyrgyz nationals, who are waiting for the opportunity to enter Belarus.

In this regard, the ministry strongly recommends that citizens of the Kyrgyz Republic plan alternative routes for leaving Lithuania in advance.
