The press service of the National Security Committee of Kazakhstan reported the prevention of a terrorist attack in Almaty, which was planned by a group of five foreign citizens. According to the NSC, the incident was thwarted in September 2025 during the preparation stage when the agency's officers intervened in the situation.
All suspects were detained and placed in custody. Further investigation is underway, the committee noted.
In addition, in the past two months, eight citizens of Kazakhstan have been arrested on suspicion of promoting terrorism, and six of them received various sentences for terrorist and extremist activities. Since the beginning of this year, 89 individuals have been held accountable for terrorism-related crimes, including six foreigners.
