Results of the socio-economic development of the Kyrgyz Republic for the first 9 months of 2014


According to preliminary data from the National Statistical Committee of the Kyrgyz Republic, the real GDP growth for January-September 2014 was 3.0%, which is 5.9 percentage points lower than the corresponding period in 2013, while the nominal GDP amounted to 266.6 billion soms.

The real growth of the economy, excluding enterprises involved in the development of the Kumtor deposit, was 2.7% (growth of 5.8% in January-September 2013) due to an increase in industrial production (excluding Kumtor) (by 3.2%), construction (by 14.3%), and services (by 2.7%).

The consumer price index for January-September 2014 compared to December of the previous year was 5.0% (for January-September 2013 compared to December 2012 it was 1.6%).

The consumer price index compared to the corresponding period of the previous year was 6.8% (in January-September 2013 compared to January-September 2012 it was 7.4%).

The exchange rate of the dollar increased by 12.14% compared to the end of September 2013 and at the end of September 2014 amounted to 54.5202 soms/USD.

As of January-September 2014, the production of industrial goods in real terms increased by 5.1% (growth of 19.3% in January-September 2013). In the industry excluding Kumtor, growth was 3.2% (growth of 0.1% in January-September 2013) due to an increase in manufacturing – by 5.4%, and the energy sector – by 7.2%. A decline of 7.2% was observed in mineral extraction.

In the services sector, the real growth for January-September 2014 was 2.7% (growth of 5.7% in January-September 2013). The growth of wholesale and retail trade, as well as the repair of cars and motorcycles, was 4.4%, while the growth of retail trade (excluding trade in cars and motorcycles) was 5.8%.

Services in hotels and restaurants in January-September 2014 increased by 7.5% (growth of 11.9% in January-September 2013).

Services in postal and courier activities in January-September 2014 increased by 7.1% compared to the corresponding period in 2013, while communication services increased by 4.1%, with tariff revenues amounting to 18,890.8 million soms.

Passenger transport services in January-September 2014 grew by 2.2%. The volume of cargo transported by all modes of transport increased by 4.8% (growth of 4.8% in January-September 2013).

For January-September 2014, the volume of agricultural, forestry, and fishing products amounted to 151,975.1 million soms, a decline of 2.2% (growth of 3.2% in January-September 2013).

For January-September 2014, the level of investment in fixed capital from all sources of financing increased by 15.1% compared to the corresponding period last year (a decline of 1.4% in January-September 2013). During the reporting period, 59,227.2 million soms of investments in fixed capital were actually utilized.

The total volume of gross construction output for January-September 2014 amounted to 57,960.5 million soms, with a growth of 14.3% (growth of 16.9% in January-September 2013).

The number of officially registered unemployed at the end of September 2014 was 57.9 thousand people, decreasing by 1.4% compared to the corresponding period in 2013 (a decrease of 5.6% in January-September 2013).

The real growth of the average monthly wage from January to August 2014 was 1.4%, while in nominal terms the average monthly wage amounted to 11,965 soms.

According to preliminary data, the foreign trade turnover for January-August 2014 amounted to 4,393.7 million USD, decreasing by 3.9% compared to January-August 2013, including exports of 946.8 million USD (an increase of 5.1%) and imports of 3,446.9 million USD (a decrease of 6.2%).

Excluding gold, the export volume amounted to 605.9 million USD (a decrease of 6.7%).

Due to the faster growth of import volumes compared to exports, the negative balance of the trade balance amounted to 2,500.1 million USD, decreasing by 9.8% compared to the corresponding period in 2013.
