A documentary film titled 'Urkun' about the 1916 uprising is being filmed in Kyrgyzstan. The film tells real stories taken from the families of those who participated in the uprising.
The author of the idea and director, Cholpon Subakozhoeva, stated that filming began in January 2013 and is ongoing.
“As of today, 80% of the work is completed. The film tells the story of 10 people who witnessed the 'Urkun' uprising. All information is sourced from family members — children, relatives. Among them are Ishembai Abdurazakova, Larisa Isakeeva, and others. These are historical facts that need to be known. Time is passing, and the children of the participants are already of age,” she said.
She noted that the main goal is to preserve the history of the Kyrgyz people and convey the truth about what happened.
“Materials and documents have been collected for the film from Kazakhstan; we still need to obtain documents from Russia and Uzbekistan — materials that we do not have. I have sent the relevant letters to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs,” she emphasized.
Ch. Subakozhoeva added: “The film will be ready in 2016. It will be a two-part film, with the premiere taking place on the 100th anniversary of the 'Urkun' uprising.”
