U.S. President Donald Trump issued a threat to his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron, announcing plans to impose tariffs of 200% on French wines and champagne. This statement was made after Trump learned that Macron might refuse to participate in the "Peace Council" for Gaza.

Trump noted: "He is not needed by anyone, as he will soon leave office... I will impose 200% tariffs on his wines and champagne, and then he will agree." According to the U.S. president, Macron's term ends next year, and the French leader has already stated that he will not run in the next elections.

Trump announced the creation of the "Peace Council" on January 16, the same day he presented the composition of its executive committee. It includes figures such as U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, special envoy Steve Witkoff, the president's son-in-law Jared Kushner, and former British Prime Minister Tony Blair. According to the charter of the new council, its primary task will be to resolve the conflict in Gaza, after which it will address other issues.
