Yellow "zebras" have appeared in the capital of Kyrgyzstan.

- Such markings are widely practiced in major cities of Europe and Russia, - explains the press service of the Bishkek mayor's office. - These crossings are visible from a distance, which attracts the driver's attention. If the new markings help reduce road traffic accidents involving pedestrians, then next year all city zebras will be painted yellow.
The new bright "zebras" have already marked the streets of Toktogul, Shopokov, Razzakov, Orozbekov, and Kalik Akiev. Currently, the municipal enterprise "Bishkekasfaltservice" is working on pedestrian crossings located on Young Guard Boulevard. It is specified that the markings are applied with road paint.
It should be noted that in Bishkek, a large portion of traffic accidents involve pedestrians. Last year, over 1,500 such incidents were recorded, resulting in the deaths of 67 pedestrians. Whether the color of the "zebras" can improve the situation is a highly debatable question.
- As a driver, I cannot definitively say whether such measures will be effective, - said IA Bishkek motorist Semyon. - The yellow color, of course, stands out more against the road surface. However, I am not sure that the paint used for road markings in Bishkek meets the standards. As we can observe on the streets of our city, the markings wear off quite quickly, and sometimes are completely absent. Many careless drivers park their cars nearby, or even directly on pedestrian crossings, making it difficult for people intending to cross the road to be seen. I believe that the number of accidents could be significantly reduced by introducing serious fines for improper parking and regularly conducting raids, rather than just changing the white paint to yellow.
