Abai Kunanbaev (Ibrahim) was an outstanding Kazakh poet and philosopher, born on July 29 (August 10) 1845 in the Zhidebay area, located in the Chingiz mountains. He is considered the founder of Kazakh written literature and its first classic. Abai aspired to cultural reform, linking the traditions of the Kazakh people with European culture through the lens of enlightened Islam. His works reflect deep thoughts on national identity, love for the homeland, and human values. In addition to poetry, Abai translated works by classics such as Pushkin, Goethe, Krylov, and Byron, and introduced new meters and rhymes into Kazakh poetry. His seminal work is considered to be the "Book of Words," which includes parables and philosophical reflections on morality, education, and law.
