The organizers have announced the start of fundraising

This year, the Ulanbek Egizbaev Award will be held for the first time with funds raised from the people. The organizers have launched a crowdfunding campaign and committed to providing a transparent report on expenditures.

As reported by the chairman of the Investigative Journalism Fund, Azamat Tynai tegin, the upcoming ceremony will be the eighth in a row, but for the first time, its funding will come from public donations. Previously, the award was annually supported by international and non-governmental organizations.

Azamat Tynai tegin also emphasized that the idea of making the award "popular" had been discussed within the Fund for several years. In the context of the current geopolitical situation, where some media organizations in Kyrgyzstan have reduced or ceased their activities, the implementation of this decision has become particularly important.

Starting in 2026, according to the Fund's decision, the Ulanbek Egizbaev Award will be entirely dependent on voluntary donations. To this end, the chairman of the Fund has opened a special account and started accepting donations via QR code.

After the ceremony, the organizers promise to provide a complete report on the funds raised and their usage.

The Ulanbek Egizbaev Award annually honors journalists for their contribution to the development of investigative journalism in Kyrgyzstan.
