At a meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh Committee on Finance, Budget, Entrepreneurship, and Competition Development, Deputy Zhanibek Abirov expressed concern about the rising prices of dishes in cafes and restaurants.

He emphasized that previously the service charge in catering establishments was 10%-15% of the total bill, with 7%-8% of that amount going to tips for the waitstaff, while the remainder stayed with the owners of the establishments.

“According to the information I have, establishments have agreed to raise prices by 20%-22% on the menu, anticipating that there may be additional changes. You claim that the increases are insignificant, but that is not the case. If you look at the prices for takeout orders, they are also inflated. How do you plan to control this?” he asked.

In response, Deputy Minister of Economy and Commerce Binazir Nurlanova stated that restaurants and cafes intend to reduce the prices of dishes by 10% for takeout orders.

The deputy inquired how the Ministry of Economy would monitor all establishments across the country.

The deputy minister explained that catering establishments are divided into different segments, and the choice remains with the customer.
