Edil Baisalov, who holds the position of Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, expressed his critical stance regarding the political processes that have taken place in recent years and the state of democracy in Kyrgyzstan in an interview with 24.kg.

In his opinion, society is very tired of the fact that politics has been merely a "game of elites" for many years, involving only "200-300 people or families." According to Baisalov, this has led to a loss of trust in democratic processes, which have ceased to be seen as means of development and have become associated with discredit.

“Back then, when all of this started to be associated with democracy, I was already disappointed. This word became a curse because the people did not like it. The games of elites, existing for their own sake, undermined trust,” he noted.

Furthermore, Baisalov recalled the presidential elections of 2017, when he concluded that there was no opportunity for change during the presidency of Almazbek Atambayev.

“The main thing was to survive Atambayev, and then changes would begin. I supported Omurbek Babanov and told him: ‘It is necessary to change the Constitution, restore the presidential model, and strengthen control so that the country can start working,’” he added.

He emphasized the importance of a long and consistent process of internal transformation for Kyrgyzstan.

“This may take 20 or 30 years. The main thing is to work on oneself and bring about changes from within,” concluded the Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers.
