At the meeting of the permanent commission of the Bishkek City Council on economics, budget, finance, and investments, the issue of teacher shortages in schools was discussed today. The director of the education department, Rakhmat Musaev, raised this issue.

According to her, there are over 400 open vacancies in the capital, the majority of which pertain to Russian-speaking schools.

“In new buildings, the level of education in Russian-speaking classes remains extremely low. In some schools, only one or two classes are opened, and when children finish elementary school and move to fifth grade, they face a shortage of teachers for subjects. We proposed to the Ministry of Education to consider the possibility of combining classes by language of instruction and conducting the program in parallel in two languages, based on the existing conditions. Ideally, subjects could be taught in English,” noted Rakhmat Musaev.
