In January of this year, cases of measles have been recorded again in Kyrgyzstan. This was reported by Gulzada Dadanova, a doctor at the Republican Center for Immunoprophylaxis, on the air of "Birinchi Radio."

According to Dadanova, there was a significant decline in morbidity by the end of 2025; however, in the first month of 2026, 22 new cases were registered in the country.

The specialist emphasized that 92% of those infected are people who either refused vaccination or did not receive it on time. Of the remaining 8% of those infected, only 6% were vaccinated but received only the first dose of the vaccine.

“Immunity develops after the first dose of vaccination, which children receive in their first year of life, and protects the body by 90%. However, when a child turns two years old, a second dose is necessary, which increases protection to 98%. The remaining two percent of those who received only one dose may become ill due to insufficient immune formation,” the doctor explained.

Vaccination remains the most reliable and effective method of protection against measles and preventing new outbreaks of the disease.

It was previously reported that in 2025, there were 10 fatalities related to measles in Kyrgyzstan.
