In the city of Manas, the 37th anniversary of the withdrawal of Soviet troops from Afghanistan was celebrated.

An event dedicated to the 37th anniversary of the withdrawal of Soviet troops from Afghanistan took place in Manas, reports Turmush correspondent.

The celebration was held in the assembly hall of the city administration.

Attending the event were Mayor Ernisebek Ormokov, Chairman of the City Kenesh Nurtilek Bolotov, veterans of the Afghan war, and widows of those who did not return from the battlefields.

In his speech, the mayor stated that participants of the war, their families, and disabled individuals who were injured during the conflict had previously received annual assistance of 2000 soms from the city budget. He promised that this year, based on the results of the first half of the year, the amount would increase to 5000 soms.

During the decade-long conflict in Afghanistan, 138 soldiers from Manas participated, of whom 117 are still alive today.

Historical reference: The Afghan war was an armed conflict that lasted from 1979 to 1989 on the territory of Afghanistan.

The main party in this conflict was the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR), which sent its troops to support the Afghan government.

The war was fought between government forces supported by the USSR and local mujahideen. As a result of the conflict, tens of thousands of people died, and millions became refugees.
