Colonel General Abdygul Chotbaev shared his opinion on Birinchi Radio that the state of the Armed Forces of Kyrgyzstan is directly related to the economic situation in the country. He noted that since the establishment of the army on May 29, 1992, it has faced numerous challenges, but despite delays in payments and food shortages, servicemen continued to fulfill their duty to the Motherland.
Chotbaev expressed satisfaction with the current state of the Armed Forces, noting that in the last 3-4 years, President Sadyr Japarov has been paying special attention to strengthening the army. Previously, Kyrgyzstan received military equipment and armaments as aid from other countries, but now, according to Chotbaev, the republic itself purchases the necessary equipment with budget funds, which is a positive step.
He also emphasized the importance of clearly executing tasks by all structures, including the Ministry of Defense and the National Security Committee. The general pointed out that the president's initiative to create an Investigative Committee was driven by necessity. In recent years, the work of the GKNB has received both praise and criticism, and in Chotbaev's opinion, the committee is too focused on minor issues, while its main task is the security of the country.
Chotbaev reminded that during the Soviet era, employees of the State Security Committee worked in the shadows, engaged in intelligence and counterintelligence without attracting attention. "Today, the GKNB intervenes in economic affairs and even in the work of local police, which, in my opinion, is wrong. The president is taking the right steps in this direction," he added.
