Activists are calling to leave in the past everything related to the Soviet legacy

A discussion has erupted on social media about the need to rename districts of Bishkek and abolish holidays such as "February 23." This initiative has sparked controversial reactions and a divide in society.

One of the initiators is user Urmat Janabaev, who stated: "It's time to send both February 23 and the Soviet names of the districts of Bishkek to the dustbin of history."

It is worth noting that deputies of the Jogorku Kenesh and participants of the People's Kurultai have repeatedly raised the issue of renaming such districts of the capital as Lenin, Pervomaisky, Oktyabrsky, and Sverdlovsky.

The holiday of February 23, like International Women's Day on March 8, is traditionally celebrated in the country as Defender of the Fatherland Day.
