At the parliament meeting held on March 19, it was announced that there are now 31 women deputies in the Jogorku Kenesh, which is a significant step towards gender equality in Kyrgyzstan. This information was presented by the speaker Marlen Mamataliyev.

As Mamataliyev clarified, the 31st woman deputy is Mavlyuda Kalberdieva.

He also added that, according to data from the Inter-Parliamentary Union, Kyrgyzstan has become a leader in the number of women in legislative bodies on a global level.

“Yesterday we celebrated the appointment of the 31st woman deputy. This updates our record. Women are represented not only in the deputy corps but also in the presidium. Additionally, during the rotation of committee leadership, women were also appointed. We not only comply with the gender quota of 30% but have exceeded it. For the first time in history, women lead international friendship groups,” noted Mamataliyev.

It is worth reminding that Mavlyuda Kalberdieva took the place of Shairbek Tashiev, receiving a deputy mandate.
