In Uzbekistan, an initiative is being considered to introduce restrictions on divorce for couples who have been in a registered union for less than a year. As reported by Podrobno.uz, the draft law also includes an extension of the reconciliation period for spouses, which can be set by the court.

According to the proposed changes, couples without common minor children will only be able to apply for divorce at the civil registry office after twelve months have passed since the registration of their marriage. A similar rule will apply for judicial divorce as well. Exceptions will be made in cases of domestic violence— in such situations, the affected party will be able to divorce regardless of the time elapsed since the marriage was contracted.

Furthermore, amendments to the Family Code aim to improve the material protection of children. In particular, it is planned to establish a minimum amount of alimony for one child that is not lower than the level of minimum consumer expenditures. To enhance the transparency of calculations, it is proposed to create mandatory special bank accounts in the name of minors, where alimony will be deposited and which will be under the control of guardianship authorities.
