Mason from "Santa Barbara": I will return to Kyrgyzstan with the children
American actor Lane Davies noted that during his short trip, he learned a few Kyrgyz words and learned from Shamshiev about the epic "Manas".
BISHKEK, August 18 — Sputnik. American actor Lane Davies sent greetings to all Kyrgyzstanis and wished Kyrgyz mothers health and prosperity.
The actor noted that his creative search brought him to Kyrgyzstan, where he met with his long-time friend, director Bolot Shamshiev.
"Bolot and I discussed new ideas and scripts, and I hope they will materialize into a collaborative project," said Davies.
He shared that there is an idea to write a joint script about a cowboy who comes to Kyrgyzstan in search of his son.
"Of course, I haven't lost my son, but I can imagine the emotions the character must experience. It's a good story, but it requires careful development," said Davies.
The actor mentioned that he mainly works with classical works, and his favorite plays are "King Lear" and "Lady Macbeth".
"In your country, I am known as Mason, but I escaped from the 700th episode. Over five years, more than 2,000 episodes of 'Santa Barbara' were filmed. It was hard work, and I had no time left for theater," the actor confessed.
Shamshiev noted that Davies agreed to come to the Kyrgyz National Drama Theater for a symbolic fee to stage one of Shakespeare's works.
"Of course, I am interested in money, but regarding the amount, we can overlook it if the inviting party can cover travel expenses, provide accommodation, and a good place to work," said Davies.
Bolot Shamshiev noted that, unfortunately, the trip to Issyk-Kul was brief, and he did not have time to show Davies the mountains.
"He is a wonderful rider and dreams of taking a horseback ride. And he also loved beshbarmak," said Shamshiev.
Davies noted that during his short trip, he learned a few Kyrgyz words and learned from Shamshiev about the epic "Manas".
"It's 'salam' and 'beshbarmak'; I heard the second one in Kazakhstan, but they say 'besbarmak' there, while in Kyrgyz it’s 'beshbarmak'," said Davies.
According to the actor, his opinion about Kyrgyzstan changed, which before his arrival was influenced by "colorful" revolutions and riots.
"I did not expect your country to be so beautiful. It is more than I expected," said Davies.
He noted that he is impressed by the nature, Lake Issyk-Kul, and the beauty of Kyrgyz women.
"I wish your country successful development, and to Kyrgyz mothers and children — strong health and prosperity," said the actor.
Davies shared that he has two sons, one of whom has already visited Kazakhstan.
"I am completely sure that Thatcher will like Kyrgyzstan too. The other one does not like to travel, but I would very much like to come back here with Nathan," said Davies.
Lane Davies was born in the USA in the city of Dalton (Georgia). He is an actor and director in theater, film, and television, and the vice president of the International Federation of Festivals (FIDOF). The 65-year-old actor is the father of two sons — Thatcher Lee and Nathan Hamilton. Lane Davies directs and acts in plays, mainly based on the works of William Shakespeare, to which he dedicates a lot of time and effort. He is the artistic director, director, and one of the organizers of the Shakespeare Festival in Tennessee.
