The Epic of "Manas". The Prayer of Manas
Prayer of Manas
Almighty God! My Creator!
I am on my knees before you.
You gave us the sun above,
You illuminate the earthly world,
Dimming the light at night,
You leave us with darkness.
Holy prophets, wise men
You give us, Creator, yourself.
You send us brainless, foolish fools
To the earth.
So that we live in wars and struggles,
You send us enemies.
Giving the heart flame and love,
You create heroes yourself.
Creator of heaven and earth,
Only you can judge us!
I led your sons into battle,
To save my native people!
You blessed me on my way,
Oh, my Creator, only you!
I shed human blood,
I lost friends and brothers!
Forgive me for this sin —
Such was my cruel age!
My Creator! I ask you,
Preserve the people in unity!
Let them multiply and live,
Let the cattle grow fat!
And let grain pour into the granaries!
Let no one encroach on his freedom, life, and labor!
And may my people for thousands of years
Not know sorrows and troubles!
Let the khan, who occupies the throne,
Be in love with his people, as I am!
And let him protect and guard
The land of ancestors from enemies.
Give honor and wisdom to the elders,
Goodness and tenderness to mothers,
Courage and conscience to sons,
Prudence to daughters!
So that the people live freely in peace,
Having given their blood and life
The faithful sons of the Kyrgyz!
Oh-omin!
And in this serene moment
Konurbay caught up with Manas —
He struck with his spear…
Hearing the khan's loud cry,
The guard Azhbay woke up,
But the vile Konurbay hid!
Azhbay returned back,
And pulled the spear from his back.
At the call came Alamanbet,
He stopped the blood from the wound.
But the broken end of the spear
Remained deep in the back,
No one could extract it…
