
On November 16 at 18:00, the Kyrgyz National Academic Theater of Opera and Ballet named after A. Maldybaev will host the ballet "Don Quixote" by composer Ludwig Minkus. This was announced in a statement from the Ministry of Culture of the Kyrgyz Republic.
The ministry noted that this work is one of the most sought-after in the theater's repertoire. "This time, the ballet will be presented with new, bright, and spectacular costumes. In anticipation of the troupe's tour to cities in Spain, costumes were prepared in a short time by the masters of the theater's sewing workshop under the guidance of high-class specialist Irina Valiakhmetova. The audience in Bishkek will be able to appreciate this magnificent work," the press release states.
Ludwig Minkus, one of the most famous ballet composers of the 19th century, created music that is perfectly suited for dance and is melodious. He spent many years in Russia, where in 1877 the music for "Don Quixote" was written, and the first premiere took place on the stage of the Bolshoi Theater in Moscow.
The plot of the ballet revolves around the knight Don Quixote and his desire to unite the hearts of the lovers — Kitri and the barber Basil. This simple yet touching story became the basis for the libretto.
The director is Uran Sarbagyshev, a People's Artist of the Kyrgyz Republic and a laureate of the State Prize of the USSR.
In the main roles, the audience can expect to see the Honored Artist of the KR Marat Sydykov (Basil), Valery Razumeyko (Don Quixote), Kadyr Toktogulov (Sancho Panza), Eles Arykov (Gamash), Atabek Sadyrkulov (Espada), and for the first time on stage — Meerim Sultakayeva as Kitri.
The orchestra will be conducted by Semetey Sultanov.
The literary and dramatic part is supervised by Elena Myagkova.
