Manas gives names to the ails

Manas was once at Issyk-Kul. At the place where the village of Tamga is now located, he marked his stamp and said that the ails should be named Tamga.

As he traveled further, he met the Kalmyk hero Barskaun. Barskaun turned out to be very strong and brave. Manas liked him very much. And the village where this hero lived was named after him by Manas.

Moving along the southern shore to the east, Manas saw a lot of huge round stones in one place, from which millstones could be made. Further on, the stones were smaller. So Manas named these places, where later settlements appeared, Chon-Dzhargylchak and Kichi-Dzhargylchak.

Once, the Kalmyks captured the southern shore of Issyk-Kul from the Kyrgyz. The Kyrgyz lived in Altai. But then Manas was born, grew up, matured, and came to return the lands of the Kyrgyz. Among Manas's best horsemen was Dzhargylchak. When they rode through the liberated land, where there were many large and small round stones on the southern shore of the lake, Manas gifted this place to the brave and strong horseman Dzhargylchak. He cleared the forest here and built two or three houses. In short, Dzhargylchak was the founder of this village, and that is why it is named after him.

SANTASH OF MANAS

At the eastern end of Issyk-Kul, there is a place called Santash. It consists of two huge hills, one larger and the other smaller. People explain their appearance like this.

Manas set out with his army for battle. In Tyup, he ordered the warriors to take a stone each and pile them up near the place called Karkyra. On the large hill, there are as many stones as there were warriors with Manas when he went on the campaign. And on the smaller hill, there are as many stones as the horsemen of Manas who returned home victorious.
