Baytursunov Nasyr

(in the decree - Nasir) – commander of the crew of a 45-mm gun of the 1086th Rifle Regiment (323rd Rifle Division, 33rd Army, 1st Belorussian Front), sergeant. One of the few full knights of the Order of Glory, awarded four Orders of Glory.

Born on November 18, 1918, in the village of Kokomeren, which is part of the modern Jayil District of Chuy Region, Kyrgyzstan, in a peasant family. Kyrgyz. Graduated from 7 grades and the Frunze Pedagogical College. Worked at the school in the village of Suusamyr.

In February 1943, he was drafted into the Red Army by the Jumgal District Military Commissariat. He was at the front during the Great Patriotic War from May 1943. He went through his entire combat path as part of the 1086th Rifle Regiment of the 323rd Rifle Division, initially as a gunner and later as the commander of a 45-mm gun crew. He fought on the Bryansk, 1st and 2nd Belorussian Fronts. He crossed the rivers Drut, Berezina, Vistula, Oder, and Spree. He liberated Belarus, participated in battles on Polish soil, in East Pomerania and Silesia, and in the Battle of Berlin. Member of the VKP(b)/CPSU since 1944.

He received his first combat award – the Medal "For Courage" – for his distinction in battles during the crossing of the Desna River, where he destroyed a machine gun crew that was hindering the crossing of troops.

On June 24, 1944, during the breakthrough of the enemy's defense on the western bank of the Drut River near the village of Ozerany in the Rogachev District of Gomel Region, Belarus, Sergeant Baytursunov destroyed three enemy firing points, which contributed to the capture of the first enemy trenches. On June 25, while repelling a counterattack, he knocked out an enemy assault gun and killed several Nazis. He was recommended for the Order of Glory 3rd class.

On June 29, 1944, near the settlement of Leshnitsa (Minsk Region, Belarus), on the highway at the crossing over the Berezina River, he accurately destroyed 6 enemy vehicles and one anti-aircraft installation. On June 30, he participated in repelling four enemy counterattacks, destroyed 3 machine gun positions, and killed up to 20 Nazis. He was recommended for the Order of the Red Star.

The regiment commander signed the recommendation on August 14, but their fates diverged. The first document reached the division commander for signature a few days later, while the second one only after 4 months. However, since both documents had the note "not awarded," the division commander changed the status of the award.

By orders of the commander of the 323rd Rifle Division dated August 24, 1944 (No. 095/n, for battles on June 24-26) and December 29, 1944 (119/n, for battles on June 29 and 30), Sergeant Baytursunov Nasyr was awarded two Orders of Glory 3rd class. He was presented with only the order from the first order on the front.

In August 1944, during the breakthrough of the enemy's defense on the Narev River, Sergeant Baytursunov was already commanding a crew.

The artillerymen under his command participated in repelling two enemy counterattacks and destroyed 3 firing points and over 20 Nazis. He was awarded the Order of the Red Star.

On January 14, 1945, during the breakthrough of the enemy's defense in the area of the settlement of Kiyanka, located 22 kilometers southwest of the Polish city of Pulawy, Sergeant Baytursunov, along with his crew, supporting the infantry units of the regiment, destroyed 7 firing points, knocked out 3 vehicles with military cargo and an assault gun, and killed over 10 soldiers. Additionally, by eliminating the crew, he contributed to the capture of 4 enemy guns. For these battles, he was recommended for the Order of the Patriotic War 2nd class.

By order of the troops of the 33rd Army dated April 14, 1945 (No. 86/n), Sergeant Baytursunov Nasyr was awarded the Order of Glory 2nd class.

On April 17, 1945, during the crossing of the Oder River north of the city of Fürstenberg (Germany), Sergeant Baytursunov was one of the first with his unit to cross to the western bank without losses in personnel. In the battle on the bridgehead, the crew knocked out 2 Ferdinand self-propelled guns and destroyed three firing points. On April 27, in the battle for the settlement of Schwenev (Brandenburg, Germany), with his gun, he broke into the enemy's rear and fought independently for 8 hours while surrounded. His maneuver contributed to the unit's exit to the northern outskirts of the settlement, which determined the success of the battle. In this battle, he preserved the entire personnel of his crew and the weapon. He was recommended for the title of Hero of the Soviet Union; the recommendation went through all instances, but a different decision was made in Moscow.

By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR dated May 31, 1945, for exemplary performance of command assignments in battles against the German-fascist invaders, Sergeant Baytursunov Nasyr was awarded the Order of Glory 1st class.

He became a full knight of the Order of Glory.

In 1945, Senior Sergeant Baytursunov was demobilized.

Before retiring, he worked in the collective farm "Rassvet" as a horse herder, head of the horse farm, and fodder worker.

He lived in the village of Kozhomkul in the Suusamyr aiyl district of the Jayil region of Chuy Province, Kyrgyzstan. He died on May 11, 1995.

Awarded the Orders of the Patriotic War 1st class (March 11, 1985), the Red Star (November 13, 1944), Orders of Glory 1st (May 29, 1945), 2nd class (April 14, 1945), two Orders of Glory 3rd class (August 24, 1944, December 14, 1944), medals, including "For Courage" (June 19, 1944).
