In December 1941, he was drafted into the Red Army. Initially, he was assigned to a cavalry detachment, in the 309th Cavalry Regiment, formed from local residents. Private Kadykulov began his military service as a communications soldier in a battery of heavy 125-mm guns. In January 1942, he was wounded.
From February of the same year, after the hospital, he served in the 103rd Separate Engineer Battalion of the 53rd Rifle Division. He fought with this unit until victory. He participated in battles on the Southwestern, Steppe, and 2nd Ukrainian Fronts.
Member of the VKP(b)/CPSU since 1944.
In March 1944, the Southern Bug River overflowed. Murky, wide, with drifting ice, and with boggy banks, it seemed an insurmountable barrier. But the front could not stop. The 7th Guards Army crossed the river on the move. For the engineers, this meant working day and night under enemy fire, on an open river, and then making passages through minefields on the enemy shore.
In the award sheet for those days, Major Voronkov wrote about Kadykulov: “...He especially distinguished himself during the offensive in March 1944. He went ahead of the infantry, making passages through the enemy's minefields. Personally discovered and removed 138 German mines. Despite enemy shelling, he clearly and boldly carried out the assigned task.
Deserving of the Order of Glory III class.”
By order dated March 31, 1944, Private Kadykulov Idris was awarded the Order of Glory 3rd class (No. 53280).
In August 1944, during the breakthrough of the enemy's defense, east of the city of Târgu Mureș (Romania), Private Kadykulov, acting as part of a reconnaissance platoon, made passages through minefields and barbed wire obstacles, clearing the way for tanks and infantry. During the spring-summer campaign of 1944, he laid more than 3,000 mines of various types and neutralized about 2,500 enemy mines. He repeatedly went behind enemy lines, gathering valuable information, and captured five "language" (enemy soldiers). Tall, strong, with extraordinary strength, he quickly gained the respect of the scouts by removing mines "like sunflower seeds" and fighting "like a tank."
On his chest, among the orders, appeared the badge "Excellent Miner," which was awarded only for skill. His combat record included three thousand laid mines and two and a half thousand neutralized. Two thousand five hundred times, Idris held death in his hands. Two thousand five hundred times, risking his life, he saved someone from death.
And again forward, and again obstacles, minefields, reconnaissance in the rear, blowing up bridges, establishing crossings.
By order dated October 17, 1944, Private Kadykulov Idris was awarded the Order of Glory 2nd class (No. 6968).
On December 10, 1944, during reconnaissance of the terrain and selection of a crossing site on the Ipel River (Nograd province, Hungary), Junior Sergeant Kadykulov, with his platoon, under heavy enemy fire, cleared the riverbank and thereby ensured the units' ability to cross. On the same day, anticipating the direction of the enemy's tank counterattack, he managed to place several heavy mines in its path. Encountering a minefield that was not marked on the map and suffering significant losses, the tanks were unable to pass, and their attack faltered. The battalion commander nominated the sapper for the Order of the Patriotic War 1st class.
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR dated April 28, 1945, for exceptional courage, bravery, and fearlessness in battles against the Hitlerite invaders, Junior Sergeant Kadykulov Idris was awarded the Order of Glory 1st class (No. 127). He became the first full knight of the Order of Glory in his engineer battalion, and his comrades knew: Idris deserved it.
After the war, until May 1946, Senior Sergeant Kadykulov served on the southern borders of our country, in the city of Kushka (Turkmenistan). In 1947, he was demobilized.
He returned to his native Kyrgyzstan. He lived in the village of Kazarman in the Toguz-Toro district of the Naryn region. Graduated from the Naryn Pedagogical College. Worked in a school. Later worked in the district Irrigation Systems Administration.
He died on March 9, 1982.
