PM2.5 refers to fine particles smaller than 2.5 microns, which are 30 times smaller than a human hair. They are a mixture of dust, ash, and soot particles, as well as sulfates and nitrates present in the air. These substances lead to the atmospheric haze characteristic of large cities.
In the global ranking of cities by air quality as of March 8, Bishkek ranks 24th (5:00 PM).
