PM2.5 refers to fine particulate matter with a diameter of less than 2.5 microns. Their diameter is 30 times smaller than that of a human hair. These particles include a mixture of dust, ash, soot, as well as sulfates and nitrates present in the air. It is these substances that create the characteristic haze observed in large metropolitan areas.
As of March 21, Bishkek ranks 8th in the world ranking for air quality and atmospheric pollution (5:00 PM).
