In early October 2025, an innovative transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) surgery was successfully performed at the Research Institute of Heart Surgery and Organ Transplantation on a 73-year-old woman in critical condition. This was reported by the Ministry of Health of Kyrgyzstan.

The patient was hospitalized with diagnoses of critical stenosis and aortic valve insufficiency, as well as grade III mitral and tricuspid insufficiency. Echocardiography showed a heart ejection fraction of only 26%, indicating severe heart failure.

Previously, she had undergone examination at the Meshalkin Clinic in Novosibirsk, Russia, where she was recommended treatment for gastric ulcer disease due to a high risk of bleeding. However, during the treatment, her condition sharply deteriorated, leading to the need for emergency hospitalization at the Research Institute of Heart Surgery and Organ Transplantation.

The surgery was conducted under the guidance of medical science candidate Abay Turdubaev, head of the department of interventional radiology and acute coronary syndrome, in collaboration with Doctor of Medical Sciences Oleg Viktorovich Krestyaninov and his team of Kyrgyz surgeons.

During the intervention, a next-generation aortic valve was implanted through the femoral artery.

Specialists noted the uniqueness of this case, as the surgery was performed under critical conditions for the patient, including low ejection fraction, pronounced edema, pulmonary congestion, and the presence of a large postoperative hernia of the anterior abdominal wall.

Despite the significant risk of complications, the surgery was successfully completed.

Now, two weeks after the procedure, the patient feels satisfactory and will be discharged home under medical supervision.

This case serves as another confirmation of progress in high-tech cardiac surgery in Kyrgyzstan, allowing for the saving of lives of patients who previously needed treatment abroad.
